Ridiculous price of McDonald’s hash brown blasted by fast food customers as ‘bonkers’

MCDONALD’S customers have been shocked to discover the chain is charging nearly £2 for a singular hashbrown.

Angry diners have taken to X to blast the chain for hiking the price of the fried breakfast item to £1.99 across some chains.

“It’s just gone bonkers,” said one customers, while another said paying almost two quid was “too far”.

While another hurt customer added: “Yes I ordered this recently and was shocked to discover it was only one.”

And another chimed in: “McDonald’s used be on for a cheap breakfast but now it’s far too expensive for what you get.”

It’s understood that the £1.99 price point reflects pricing at less than 5% of McDonald’s restaurants, typically customers pay £1.59-£1.69 for a single potato piece.

A spokesperson for the chain told The Sun: “A significant proportion of our restaurants are owned and operated by Franchisees, who set their own prices.

“As a result, the price of individual items may vary; however, all share our commitment to providing customers with a high-quality restaurant experience and great value for money.”

It’s not the first time diners have blasted the popular fast food joint for increasing the cost of its grub.

Just a few weeks back, it came under fire for scrapping its classic £5 meal deal in favour of the new ‘Meal Deal Plus’ which comes in at £5.59.

Fast food fans used to be able to get a Chicken Mayo or a Cheeseburger, Medium Fries, a soft drink and a “bonus side” of four Chicken McNuggets for £5 in the deal.

Now the Meal Deal Plus gives you more choice on your bonus side.

You can choose from four Chicken McNuggets, Mini McFlurry, Apple Pie or an additional Cheeseburger or Mayo Chicken.

Come March,  MyMcDonald’s Rewards will get less bang for their buck as the Big Mac maker is due to increase the number of points required to get free food.
