RICHARD LITTLEJOHN: Migrants are welcome – but not British schoolgirls in Union Jack frocks!

At first glance, there’s nothing to connect the 12-year-old girl excluded from school for wearing a Union Jack dress to a ‘Culture Day’ and the disgraceful Afghan airlift cover-up.

But bear with me and you’ll discover how closely they are related. Courtney Wright, from Bilton, near Rugby, was told her frock, modelled on one worn by Ginger Spice and intended to celebrate British culture, was ‘inappropriate’.

She was kept in isolation, along with other pupils kitted out in St George’s and Welsh flags. A boy from an agricultural background who arrived in a Farmer Giles flat cap and checked shirt was stopped at the school gates. (No doubt they thought he had come as Jeremy Clarkson and was planning a slurry protest against the imposition of IHT on family farms.)

Meanwhile, kids in burkas, niqabs and traditional African costumes partied away merrily inside. The only outfit missing was the Palestinian intifada headscarf.

Despite the school claiming the event was designed to celebrate the ‘rich heritage and diversity of our students’, the one culture which couldn’t be celebrated under any circumstances was anything remotely British.

Since the story broke, the school has been backtracking desperately, issuing weasel words of ‘regret’, but without any explanation as to how this outrage happened in the first place.

Which is where we come to the connection with the Afghan cover-up. The super-injunction obtained by the Government was designed specifically to keep the truth about the airlift not just from MPs but also from the electorate as a whole.

The political class, Labour in particular, considers a significant proportion of the British public to be borderline racist at best. Any symbol of nationhood, such as a Union Jack frock, is an affront to their woke creed. Best to keep the great unwashed in the dark about immigration, lest they rise up in anger. They see vast numbers of their own constituents as knuckle-dragging scum who can’t be trusted and are permanently on the brink of rioting.

Yes, ministers claim they were only acting to protect the identities of Afghans at risk of being killed by the Taliban. And, yes, they were also primarily intent on covering their own backsides.

But that’s just the half of it. A memo circulating in Whitehall two weeks before the judge lifted the gagging order gives the real game away.

Their main fear was that if and when the injunction was discharged there could be Southport-style riots as the public discovered there was a plan to bring more than 20,000 Afghans to Britain at vast expense to the taxpayer.

As the memo put it, the Ministry of Defence would need to ‘work with colleagues to mitigate any risk of public disorder’.

Once it became known that the Government was prepared to spend £7 billion we haven’t got on accommodation and other expenses for airlifted Afghans, including thousands who had previously been rejected for asylum, their principal concern was that the ‘far-Right’ might take to the streets.

After the widespread anti-immigration protests which followed the Southport Taylor Swift murders last year, the Home Office issued a memo to Cabinet ministers noting that the most serious disturbances were where the highest number of asylum seekers and recently arrived Afghans had been resettled.

(People have a right to be concerned. GB News revealed this week that the number of Afghan migrants charged with sexual assaults is 22 times higher than UK citizens. That’s not a mis-print. Twenty-two times.)

Yet rather than pause for thought, the Government ploughed ahead with a covert scheme to airlift thousands more Afghans to Britain under cover of a draconian super-injunction.

They were more bothered about the possible backlash than the wisdom of dumping migrants from another, alien culture – some would say another planet – slap-dab in the middle of our green and pleasant.

Frankly, the political class couldn’t give a monkey’s about the disruption caused by their reckless mass immigration policies. The interests of British people come a distant second to the ‘yuman rites’ of foreign nationals.

No one is excusing the mindless hooligans who lob petrol bombs at a Holiday Inn or use a legitimate protest as an excuse to pick a fight with the Old Bill.

But how do politicians of all the main parties expect people to react when busloads of young men, about whom we know nothing, are suddenly billeted in local hotels overnight, everywhere from Datchet and Epping in the South, to post-industrial towns in the Red Wall already struggling economically?

We hear the Labour Government droning on repeatedly about the £22 billion ‘black hole’ in the public finances, yet they apparently think nothing of spaffing billions on resettling Afghans without telling anyone. No wonder they moved heaven and earth to keep it quiet.

The Tories aren’t exempt from this, either. It was a Conservative government that applied for the injuction. Then again, there’s little to choose between Labour and the Tories when it comes to holding the people they are paid to represent in contempt.

On everything from Brexit to the small boats crisis, the clearly expressed wishes of the electorate are ignored. Look how the political class spent four years trying to overturn the result of the 2016 referendum, the biggest vote for anything in British history.

Boris was elected on a promise to Get Brexit Done and take back control of our borders. Although he got Brexit done, after a fashion, far from taking back control he opened the floodgates to record numbers of migrants.

Surkeir, despite getting only a third of the total vote last time, just one in five of those eligible, is now dragging us back into the EU – selling out our fishermen to the French and subjecting us to the mercy of European judges.

Under Labour the belittling of the British people, our culture and traditions, is accelerating ‘at pace’ as the latest political cliche would have it. Ministers may wrap themselves in the flag occasionally for political expediency, but they have no love for this country. Emily Thornberry spoke for the vast majority of Labour activists when she sneered at a White Van Man displaying a St George’s flag during a football tournament. She has been rewarded with a damehood.

(Even counter-terrorism is warped by wokery. A new report this week confirmed that the killers of the three little girls in Southport and Tory MP David Amess were investigated by the Prevent programme, but were allowed to slip through the net. Maybe if Prevent hadn’t spent a disproportionate amount of time, money and manpower hunting for ‘far-Right’ terrorists, their victims might still be alive.)

While the Government worships every other culture and is preparing a new blasphemy law to tackle ‘Islamophobia’, British patriotism is treated with suspicion and even outright hostility.

We now have an appointed Leftist Attorney General, Lord Hermer, who thinks opposition to rule by the EU is akin to Nazi Germany. Then again, he did represent Gerry Adams and was instrumental in giving away the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, another of his former clients.

Hermer’s far-Left mates in the yuman rites racket are now signing up Afghans to sue the Government for as much as £1 billion in compensation over the data leak. One law firm in Manchester is expected to rake in a staggering £100 million in fees, courtesy once again of the mug British taxpayer.

No doubt if Surkeir was still working as a lawyer, he’d be sticking his beak in the trough, too.

His Government appears to have no interest in representing the ‘working people’ they pretend to champion. Quite the opposite. They don’t even like working people, especially when they object to having thousands of migrants dumped on their doorstep.

Labour ministers and their far-Left allies in the legal establishment and elsewhere see their job as keeping the proles under the woke yoke. International treaties must always take precedence over domestic law. While British culture and tradition are vilified, all other cultures must be ‘celebrated’.

Which brings us back to Courtney Wright and her ‘inappropriate’ dress. How the hell did we arrive here? Simple. The woke mind virus now permeates every aspect of public administration, from the PM downwards, via the courts, the civil service, the police, local councils, etc.

It extends to the gormless Guardianista teachers who can’t look at a 12-year-old girl in a Union Jack frock without seeing a budding ‘far-Right’ racist who must be ostracised and educated in the correct way to ‘celebrate diversity’.

Kids like Courtney are being taught to be ashamed of their heritage, presumably so they’ll all vote Labour when they hit 16.

Makes You Proud To Be British.
