PARTYGOERS have been evacuated from bars and clubs after a “possible chemical incident”.
Police were called to several venues in Bury town centre, Greater Manchester, at around 2.30am.
Shocked revellers were evacuated amid fears of a possible chemical incident as fire crews cordoned off Silver Street.
Witnesses claimed “everyone just started coughing” and multiple people were treated for breathing problems.
“Everyone just started coughing. It was mad. Then everyone went outside and they just kicked everyone out,” one clubber told the Manchester Evening News.
Emergency crews responded and used specialist equipment including a gas monitor to check the area.
The fire service remained on the scene for several hours.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed no one was taken to hospital and thankfully no hazardous substances were found.
A force spokesperson said: “Shortly before 2.30am this morning officers were called to reports that several people had become unwell at a premises on Silver Street, Bury.
“Emergency services attended, where multiple people subsequently reported suffering respiratory problems.
“Several people were treated at the scene, with no-one taken to hospital.
“The scene and environment were assessed following the incident, with no hazardous substances identified.
“There is not believed to be any wider threat to the community.
“Officers have been at the scene and are undertaking further enquiries to establish the full circumstances.”
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service added: “Shortly before 2.30 this morning, several fire engines from across Greater Manchester were called to reports of a possible chemical incident on Silver Street, Bury.
“Crews arrived quickly and used specialist equipment including a gas monitor to check the area.
“They worked alongside Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service to ensure the area and all those involved were safe.
“Firefighters were in attendance for around three hours.”
