Amad Diallo was the target of serious personal abuse from a Manchester United fan in Malaysia, Mail Sport can reveal.
A photo of Amad went viral after the 1-0 defeat against the ASEAN All-Star team in Kuala Lumpar where the Ivorian is photographed putting his middle finger up.
There had been some suggestions online that it was linked to his name and desire for people not use ‘Diallo’ as a point of reference.
The United star has since confirmed that he received personal abuse relating to his mother.
‘I have respect for people but not for the one who insults my mom…’ he said on Twitter.
‘I shouldn’t have reacted like that but I don’t regret what I did.
‘We had a great time in Malaysia with good people.’
He was later seen posing with a pair of fans in a lift while Garnacho displayed the same gesture. However, that picture is believed to have been more playful.
