Paedophile rockstar Ian Watkins sent a love letter to his ‘secret fiancée’ vowing they wouldn’t be ‘apart forever’ the day before he was murdered in prison, it has been revealed.
Watkins, 48, was killed inside HMP Wakefield last weekend, where he was serving 29 years for a string of child sex offence, including the attempted rape of a fan’s baby daughter.
The disgraced Lostprophets frontman’s throat was reportedly cut by a fellow inmate after prisoners came out of their cells. Paramedics rushed to the high-security West Yorkshire jail but were unable to save him.
Two prisoners, Rico Gedel, 25, and Samuel Dodsworth, 43, have since been charged with his murder. Gedel reportedly refused to appear via prison video link during a hearing at Leeds Crown Court this week.
It has now been revealed that, the day before his death, Watkins had written a birthday card to a fan named Ellie, 30, with whom he had forged a controlling relationship, even proposing to her in front of inmates after instructing her to buy an engagement ring, according to The Sun.
In the card, which arrived at Ellie’s home on the day he was murdered, Watkins wrote: ‘Duchess. Didn’t think I’d forget your birthday did you. They won’t keep us apart forever. Your Duke. IW.’
Ellie, who shared dozens of letters from Watkins, said he maintained a disturbing level of control over her for a decade.
She said: ‘He had a hold over me. I tried multiple times to move on, but it never worked.I couldn’t ever drop the thought of him.’

In one letter, Watkins described a previous attempt on his life in 2023, writing: ‘Stabbed in the neck eight times. Almost died, was touch and go,’ adding: ‘The weapon went in so far it hit my spine in my neck and scrambled all the nerves.’
Despite his injuries, he added boastfully: ‘Thankfully I’m still really hot. Someone on the wing said I look like Grindelwald… So whenever I get compared to Johnny Depp it’s always a good day, haha.’
In another message, the killer musician seemed to predict his own death, writing: ‘I hate the weekends in here cause we are unlocked all day so you never know what’s going to happen.’
Watkins’ contact with Ellie was exposed in 2018 when prison officers caught him with a mobile phone in his cell, a discovery that earned him an extra 10 months on his sentence.
After contact resumed, he complained about the stricter controls: ‘This place has gone super N. Korea… It’s nothing like it was before.’
The 48-year-old had previously been sentenced to nearly three decades behind bars for a series of child sex offences, which included the attempted rape of a fan’s baby daughter.
As the Mail has previously reported, his ex-girlfriend, Joanne Mjadzelics, who helped expose the sick paedophile, now suffers from PTSD and self-harm after being exposed to Watkins’ vile behaviour.
Speaking exclusively to the Daily Mail, she said: ‘This is a big shock, but I’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner. I was always waiting for this phone call.
‘He was walking around with a target on his back from the first day he entered the prison.
‘I have always been scared of him getting out and tracking me down or something, so this is a relief.
‘I wanted him dead for a long time after everything he did. I am relieved, I feel like a weight has been lifted from my head.
‘This is the second time someone has slashed his throat. I expected it to have happened earlier. He’s been in there for almost 13 years.’

Samuel Dodsworth, appearing in court, has been charged with the star’s murder, along with Rico Gedel, 25 who reportedly refused to appear via prison video link during a hearing at Leeds Crown Court
Prisoners Rashid Gedel, 25, whose name was given in court as Rico Gedel (left), and Samuel Dodsworth, 43, have been charged with murdering Ian Watkins at Wakefield jail on Saturday
Miss Mjadzelics, who only just found out the news, added: ‘The families of those poor victims will be rejoicing today.
‘He’s gone and they will be just as relieved as I am. Maybe now a new part of my life will begin.
‘The man I fell in love with never existed. He manipulated me and that man who died today in prison was a stranger to me. I never loved him, he just put on a character.’
Watkins is said to have died from blood loss after being slashed to the jugular.
