Reform UK ‘in talks with Liz Truss’ as Nigel Farage looks to take on ‘The Blob’

Former prime minister Liz Truss has reportedly been in talks with Reform UK as Nigel Farage‘s party eyes up another electoral breakthrough.

After winning five seats at last summer’s general election, Reform are seeking to win hundreds of council seats at next month’s local elections in England.

The party have also set their sights on success at elections to the Welsh Senedd and Scottish Parliament in 2026.

While on the campaign trail for this year’s English council contests, Reform figures have regularly referred to Mr Farage as ‘Britain’s next PM’.

He has rated his own chances of reaching Downing Street at ’35 to 45 per cent’.

In a sign of how seriously he is taking the prospect of entering No10, The Times said that Mr Farage’s allies have discussed with Ms Truss how to take on ‘The Blob’.

The newspaper reported the ex-premier gave advice on how to engineer a major overhaul of the state.

‘It’s not just a case of thinking about policy, it’s about working through delivery in the face of institutional resistance,’ a source said.

Since she resigned as PM after a chaotic 49 days in power, Ms Truss has frequently blamed ‘the establishment’ for her failure to implement her radical policy agenda.

The former Tory leader also recently urged ‘the best of the Conservatives and the best of Reform’ to work together.

This is despite current Tory leader Kemi Badenoch and Mr Farage having ruled out a pact between their two parties ahead of the next general election.

Last month, it emerged that Mr Farage had held secret talks with controversial ex-Downing Street aide Dominic Cummings about how Reform can take on the Tories.

A friend of Mr Cummings, who served as Boris Johnson’s chief adviser in No10 between 2019 and 2020, revealed how their ‘friendly chat’ covered a range of subjects.

‘They had a friendly chat about the general scene,’ the ally told the Sunday Times.

‘About [Donald] Trump and Doge [Elon Musk’s cost-cutting drive in the US], about how No10 and the Cabinet Office really work, about the catastrophe of the Tory party and about what Reform has to do to replace the Tories.’

The friend of Mr Cummings insisted there was no discussion about the former Vote Leave campaign director working for Reform as ‘he doesn’t want a Westminster job’.

A Reform source confirmed the talks between Mr Farage and Mr Cummings, but said the pair’s discussions centred on how to overhaul Whitehall.

‘Nigel and Dom did have a meeting – they discussed how to take on The Blob’, the source said.
