QPR auctioning off shirt from infamous deadline day transfer that never happened… 13 years on from iconic TV moment

QPR have announced that Peter Odemwingie’s unworn No9 shirt from his infamous failed 2013 transfer is being put up for sale.

The failed move has become one of the most iconic transfer deadline day stories of all-time.

Peter Odemwingie drives to complete transfer to QPR that didn’t go through

It all came about when West Brom striker Odemwingie drove down to London to complete his proposed transfer to QPR.

But in the end, it didn’t happen and it has since become the moment that everyone pulls up when that time of the year comes around.

Although Odemwingie didn’t get the chance to wear QPR’s No9 jersey, somebody else might.

Fans will remember during the dying embers of deadline day in January 2013, the Sky Sports camera panning first to Odemwingie in his car.

The former Nigeria international said: “West Brom is my home, but it’s a new chapter to start in my life.

“Every football fan is excited to see if we are going to make it or not. I’m very optimistic about it. I’m happy with the trust that (then QPR boss) Harry Redknapp is giving me.

“I hope things go well in the last few hours.”

In the end, things didn’t go well.

Later on in the night, Redknapp said: “I think he probably felt that a deal had been agreed between the clubs, and it hadn’t. It was all a bit of a mix up really.”

The shirt has never been worn which could see it’s value sore – and finally be part of a completed deal.
