Prince William cheers on the Lionesses in their Euro 2025 group stage clash against the Netherlands – but Prince George is absent

Prince William is cheering on the Lionesses’ during their crunch Euros match against the Netherlands in Zurich this evening.

The Prince of Wales appeared quite animated as he spurred on the England women at the Stadion Letzigrund this evening for what is set to be a blockbuster match between the two teams.

England are making a last ditch attempt to stay in the tournament after losing to France in the opening game of the tournament.

The team are desperately trying to avoid defeat against in order to have a fighting chance of qualification as they currently sit third in Group D.

Anything less than a win takes it out of England’s hands, while a defeat would be disastrous, and could pave the way for one of the worst title defences in women’s Euros history.

A long-term Aston Villa supporter, William is often spotted in the stands supporting his Premier League club as well as the men’s and women’s national team alongside his son Prince George.

However on this occasion, the future King has travelled to Switzerland on his own, with George seemingly staying at home with his mother Princess Kate.

The Lionesses have promised that they will go back to basics and put on a proper English performance in tonight’s game following their 2-1 defeat against Les Blues on Saturday.

Wiegman’s perfect record at the Euros – six wins in charge of the Netherlands, six wins at England‘s – had finally come to an end. France found a chink in the armour and twisted the knife.

The result has left them third in Group D and facing a threat of being knocked out at the group stage, after a performance riddled with individual errors and an uncharacteristic absence of attacking intent.

One of the players who particularly struggled was Georgia Stanway, 26, on a night which she said left her disappointed due to the fact that she ‘couldn’t do the things that I wanted to be able to do, in terms of in-possession especially’.

The England midfielder said: ‘We’ve spoken about wanting to be proper England. We want to go back to what we’re good at, a traditional style of football in terms of tough tackles, getting back down to our roots and remembering why we’re here. Remembering to play for the little girl that wanted to be here.

‘We believe in the plan. We want to play expansive football and if we tidy up on the ball then expansiveness won’t be a problem.’
