BOURNEMOUTH defender Marcos Senesi is set to become one of the most sought-after free agents in Europe this summer – with Premier League giants circling.
The Argentine centre-back will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season after failing to agree a new deal with the Cherries.
According to 365scores (via MD), Bournemouth have officially abandoned contract talks with the Argentine defender, a development confirmed by club chief Tiago Pinto.
Pinto, who is Bournemouth’s director of football operations, confirmed the defender will depart when his contract expires.
He said Senesi “will become a free player next June and will officially leave the team at the end of his contract next summer”.
Pinto added that the Argentine “will not have a future at the club, which means he will be out of the team’s plans for the new season”.
Several clubs are already monitoring the 28-year-old’s situation, with Chelsea and Newcastle both credited with interest as they look to strengthen their defensive options.
But Senesi could be heading abroad instead.
According to reports from football-espana, the defender would prefer a move to Barcelona as the Spanish giants search for defensive reinforcements ahead of next season.
The Catalan side are reportedly exploring the free agent market as they attempt to manage tight financial restrictions.

Signing a player without paying a transfer fee would allow the club to strengthen their squad while staying within LaLiga’s spending limits.
Senesi has impressed during his time in the Premier League with Bournemouth, establishing himself as a reliable presence when called upon in defence.
However, the South Coast club have accepted that his future lies elsewhere.
Tottenham are also believed to be keeping tabs on Senesi’s situation, while clubs in Italy have reportedly been alerted to his availability.
But despite strong Premier League interest, Senesi’s reported preference for Barcelona could prove decisive.
Talks between the defender’s representatives and the LaLiga leaders are expected to develop in the coming weeks.
