First Dates waitress Laura revealed she has gestational diabetes, which develops when your body cannot produce enough insulin – a hormone that helps control blood sugar levels – to meet extra needs in pregnancy.

Laura wrote on Instagram: “A little pregnancy update. Oh we’ve popped! Nearly in the third trimester now.

“Mad how second time round you literally forget where you’re up to in pregnancy cos you’re so busy with your toddler.

“The first pregnancy I could have probably told you how many minutes pregnant I was, this time round I have to keep checking my dates.

“Sickness finally eased off a few weeks ago. Started to make up for it by eating everything in sight.

“Glad I made the most of those few weeks now cos [I have] been told yesterday I have gestational diabetes again.

“Praying this doesn’t affect my delivery choice this time round. Hoping for a VBAC. Just over 12 weeks to go.”

Laura left First Dates in 2021 and trained to be a paramedic.

She married her husband in August 2022 and welcomed a baby boy the following year.

Laura recently revealed “life was about to get crazier” as she shared a photo of a baby scan.

She told followers: “Life is about to get a little crazier — Baby Clarke Number 2 is due December 2025, and we can’t wait!”

What is gestational diabetes?

GESTATIONAL diabetes is high blood sugar (glucose) that develops during pregnancy.

It can happen at any stage of pregnancy, but is more common in the second or third trimester and usually disappears after giving birth.

Gestational diabetes happens when your body cannot produce enough insulin – a hormone that helps control blood sugar levels – to meet your extra needs in pregnancy.

It can cause problems during pregnancy and after birth.

Symptoms include:

  • increased thirst
  • needing to pee more often than usual
  • a dry mouth
  • tiredness
  • blurred eyesight
  • genital itching or thrush

The risks from gestational diabetes can be reduced if the condition is detected early and well managed.

Laura also opened up about how her pregnancy has been progressing, giving followers a candid insight into her journey so far.
