Pope Gets Rave Reviews From Liberals…Because He Disagreed With J.D. Vance – HotAir

Stephen Colbert may disagree with the Pope on almost every issue, but that doesn’t matter a bit to him at the moment.

Only one thing counts: as a Cardinal, Pope Leo XIV disagreed with J.D. Vance on an issue.

This is pretty much all you need to know about the modern left. They have one standard that dominates them all: Do you agree or disagree with Bad Orange Man and his minions?

“JD Vance is wrong,” Prevost wrote. “Jesus doesn’t ask us to rank our love for others.” The phrase was the headline of an op-ed by a Cuban-American author, a link to which Prevost included in his tweet.

On The Late Show Thursday night, Colbert mentioned the post while discussing the new pope’s election.

“Of course, there’s lots of speculation on whether Leo will continue the progressive reforms of his friend, Pope Francis,” he said.

“No one knows for sure yet, but we do know that in February, he did tweet, ‘JD Vance is wrong. Jesus doesn’t ask us to rank our love for others.’”

His reading of the tweet earned huge cheers from the audience.

“Holy Father, you had me at ‘JD Vance is wrong,’” he added, sending the audience wild a second time.

No worries that the Pope disagrees with the left’s catechism on all things having to do with life. As long as Leo XIV agrees that MAGA is wrong about immigration, he must be all right.

Catholic moral teaching is clear–and contradicts–almost every position held by the left.

During the presidential campaign, the most important issue for the left was pushing abortion until birth. Sterilizing and mutilating children was the “civil rights issue of our times.” Refusing to recognize sex as binary was above all dispute. Any disagreement on these issues–and the Catholic Church, even at its most progressive, strongly opposes all of them–were the cornerstone upon which the Democrat platform was built. Yet when push comes to shove one principle stands above all others: where do you stand on Trump and MAGA.

“Holy Father, you had me at ‘J.D. Vance is wrong.”

We see this sort of thing all the time. Liberals pick and choose their interpretations of Christianity depending on circumstances. Half the time they are explaining that Christians stupidly believe in the false Sky God, and half the time, they tediously explain that Jesus was really a communist and would hate conservatives.

As with anything else, their beliefs are situational, and the situation that matters is promoting their own power and making conservatives look bad.

It’s tiresome.
