Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson has been accused of blocking trans guidance to protect women-only spaces from being published.

The Cabinet minister, who also holds the women and equalities brief, argues in a statement to the High Court that they are discriminatory, according to reports.

She is yet to sign them off more than three months after receiving the rules which would force business and public bodies to protect women-only spaces.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission guidance was drawn up following a Supreme Court ruling that only biological women are women under equality law.

In her submission, Ms Phillipson is said to have described them as ‘trans-exclusive’ and claims they discriminatory.

She is also claimed to have argued that banning transgender women – biological males – from women’s lavatories would also mean women could not take their ‘infant sons’ into changing rooms at swimming pool.

But sources close to the minister have insisted she is not blocking the guidance.

Now, you can vote in the Daily Mail’s poll on whether such a move would be right.

In yesterday’s poll, we asked: ‘Is Britain right to rejoin the Erasmus EU education scheme?‘ Out of more than 27,000 votes, 83% of you said ‘no’ and 17% said ‘yes’
