A POLICE chief apologised yesterday for failing to catch a serial rapist armed officer as he got a 37th life sentence.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine said of prolific predator David Carrick: “His actions bring shame on the uniform he should never have been allowed to wear.

“We heard how he grossly misused the position of trust he was given to control and abuse women.
“We have acknowledged that serious flaws in our approach meant we did not spot his pattern of abusive behaviour.
“The women who have been victims of Carrick’s offending have shown incredible courage in stepping forward to seek justice.
“We reiterate our sincere apology to them.”
