Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team is leading the ongoing investigation into the shocking murder.

Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton said: ‘Officers have worked non-stop for the past few days, resulting the arrest of five people on suspicion of murder.

‘While our investigation is still in its very early days, we are making good progress with our various lines of enquiry, and I want thank those who have come forward with information to assist us.’

On Sunday, DCI Charlton said that he believed the attack was ‘targeted’ and there was therefore no wider threat posed to the public.

He described the incident as both ‘violent and tragic’, adding that it was ‘witnessed by a lot of people’.

DCI Charlton added: ‘Even though we have three people in custody this is still a live investigation and that will continue today and into next week.

‘This was a violent and tragic incident that was witnessed by a lot of people.
