Peter Crouch left with head in hands as he foots eye-watering £7,500 bar tab for 1,000 pints at Cheltenham

PETER CROUCH was left with his head in his hands when a lost wager saw him have to stump up £7,500 on 1,000 pints at Cheltenham.

The former England star, 45, engaged in a friendly St Patrick’s Day wager with Paddy Power on the Stayers’ Hurdle.

With it being St Patrick’s Day at the Festival, patriotic Paddy Power backed one of the Irish horses to triumph, with Crouchy punting on the rest.

When 33-1 shot Home By The Lee won for Joseph Patrick O’Brien, the football favourite was left worrying about his wallet.

But ever the good sport, Crouch headed straight to the Hurricane Fly bar to get a round of 1,000 Guinesses in.

The 6ft 7in star lost a similar bet to Paddy last year.

Having again backed the non-Irish runners, Crouch was undone by Bob Olinger, ridden by Rachael Blackmore.

On that occasion, Crouchy had to fork out £7,800 on pints.

So at least this year he could console himself with the fact that the price of pints had gone down from £7.80 to £7.50.

At last year’s Festival, Crouch was left red-faced when talking about wife Abbey Clancy.

Asked by ITV‘s Oli Bell if he had ever ridden a horse, the former striker said: “Yeah, I’ve been on a few horses.

“Abbey likes to ride.”

Realising how it had sounded, Crouch then clarified himself by adding “horses”.

He and Bell then both burst out laughing.
