THREE quarters of parents are urging their kids to be builders, mechanics, engineers or hairdressers to protect their jobs from artificial intelligence.
A study found around 70 per cent are concerned about AI’s impact on their child’s career.
Parents aged under 35 are the most worried.
Car parts retailer Halfords’ poll of 1,000 mums and dads found that 90 per cent had changed their careers advice over the last two years.
Three quarters of the 1,000 kids quizzed said they felt it is ‘important’ that their future job involves practical, hands-on skills.
These included jobs working with tools, machinery or technology.
Just 18 per cent hope their kids will end up in tech roles.
They feared AI will take those jobs.
Meanwhile, 74 per cent are pushing for practical career paths.
These included careers such electricians and plumbers.
CEO of Halfords Henry Birch said: “Skilled trades and technical expertise will remain essential to keeping Britain moving.
“Our research shows parents are recognising this reality.”
