Parents’ tribute to ‘blue-eyed boy’ after playground roundabout death which may have ‘involved e-bike’

An e-bike may have been used to spin the roundabout on which a tragic schoolboy was playing with friends before falling to his death, locals claimed.

Logan Carter died in the horror fall at Wharton Recreation Ground near Ledward Street in Winsford on Friday evening.

The e-bike claim was made as the 12-year-old’s parents paid tribute to their ‘blue-eyed boy’.

In a statement issued via Cheshire Police this evening, his parents Rob and Carys said: ‘Logan was a much-loved Son, Brother, Grandson, Great Grandson, Cousin and friend to many. He had an infectious personality and a beautiful smile.

‘Everyone wanted to be where Logan was. He was a little boy who was so full of life and wanted to make everyone laugh.

‘He made every day worth living. Logan was everyone’s therapy person, their calm and he will be missed more than we can ever put into words.

‘We are taking comfort from the words of support we have received whilst we take time to come to terms with the untimely loss of our blue-eyed boy.’

The family also issued a new picture of their son.

One local resident, who didn’t wish to be named, said of the incident: ‘I heard someone was using an electric bike on the roundabout to spin it around.

‘It must have gone too fast and thrown the lad off. It’s so sad.’

Police have not yet commented on the claim.

Last night, his grieving father, Rob Carter posted an emotional tribute to his son alongside a touching picture of him clasping his hand.

He wrote on Facebook: ‘When I wake up on Friday my little mate I didn’t think that would be the last time I get to see you and my mate my heart has been ripped in two.

‘I will never forget you my mate sleep tight up the and I see you one day at them gates mate love you so much.’

He later added: ‘All I can say to people is hold your kids and tell them every day how much you love them because you never know when they will be gone.’

Today, police cordon tape could be seen wrapped around a roundabout at the park, while floral tributes and balloons have been placed at a nearby tree.

Dozens of floral tributes and a Liverpool shirt with the name ‘Bear’ have been left at the scene.

One read: ‘You will always be in our hearts forever. Love Aunty Jude & Uncle Bri.’

Another read: ‘Fly high handsome boy. Sleep tight. Loving you always and forever. Aunty Del & Uncle Dave.’

Logan was a pupil at Winsford Academy and the school posted: ‘We are deeply saddened by the recent tragic news involving one of our students.

‘Our thoughts are with the family and all those affected at this incredibly difficult time.

‘As a school community, we will be offering support to students, staff, and families.

Logan’s death is the second tragedy to involve a 12-year-old boy in the play park.

Cason Hallwood died on Christmas Day 2020 following an allergic reaction to his Christmas dinner which contained nuts.

A permanent memorial to the youngster, who also suffered from asthma, has been set up in a corner of the park.

A fundraiser set up in Logan’s memory has already raised more than £8,000 towards a £13,000 target.

Paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service had raced to the park and fought to save his life, but Logan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Sergeant John Rhodes, of the protecting vulnerable people investigations unit, said last night in a statement released by Cheshire Police: ‘This was a deeply tragic incident involving a very young victim and our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the boy who sadly died at the scene.

‘As part of our investigation into this incident, we are asking anyone who may have been in or around the Wharton Recreation Ground area just off Ledward Street in Winsford at around the time of the incident and saw anything that may aid us in our enquiries, to please get in touch.

‘At this stage, I would also like to ask the public not to feed into any speculation, particularly on social media, as this remains an ongoing investigation.’
