Outrage as BBC News questions if dog-friendly spaces should be SCRAPPED – with Andrew Neil fuming ‘do you have a death wish?!’ after wave of complaints

BBC News viewers were outraged after a report questioned whether dog-friendly spaces should be scrapped – with Andrew Neil swiping ‘do you have a death wish?’

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, the Daily Mail columnist, 76, reposted a clip of a BBC reporter addressing dog-friendly spaces in the UK.

Andrew captioned the reposted tweet: ‘BBC News clearly has a death wish.’

While speaking in the clip, the BBC reporter said: ‘Are we all becoming too dog-friendly?

‘From coffee shops, restaurants and retailers like Ikea, Zara and John Lewis, dog-friendly spaces are becoming easy to come by.’

It was then further claimed there are 13.5 million pet dogs in the UK, with 36% of households owning at least one dog.

One person commented: ‘Dogs are a fabric of UK life and an essential part of learning to live in society.

‘The game of life cannot and does not provide a set of rules for every individual.

‘There are a reasonable amount of manageable rules that all must learn and adapt to in order to play the game.’

Another said: ‘Is this real? Have we really lost the plot?’

A third wrote: ‘I don’t even own a dog, but what a ridiculous thing for the BBC to put out! For any negatives for dog friendly spaces, easily out balanced by the positive aspects.’

A fourth chimed in: ‘Go to war with dog lovers and there is only one certain outcome.’

Offering a different opinion, a fifth remarked: ‘Dogs, with exception of guide dogs, don’t belong in coffee shops, cafés or restaurants & hotels, end of.’

Elsewhere, an excruciating moment saw a BBC presenter accidentally insult Damian Lewis‘s new song in front of him in the studio.

The Homeland star, 55, appeared on Romesh Ranganathan‘s show on Saturday morning to promote his second rock album.

However, things took an embarrassing turn when traffic presenter Sally Boazman asked ‘What is this dirge?’ as his song Sweet Chaos played.

The situation was made even more awkward by Romesh, who asked Sally to repeat what she said, prompting laughter to erupt in the studio.

Damian tried to brush of the accidental insult with humour, responding: ‘I put a lot of time and hard work into this, Sally. Into this dirge, into my rock ballads.’

Sally immediately began apologising to Damian for her humiliating blunder and walked back on her criticism.

She said: ‘I listened to it more closely and I think it was very, very good. You’ve got so much talent, you can do so many things. You are a real polymath.’

Damian found fame portraying U.S. Army Major Richard Winters in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers.

He wont a Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award for his role as US Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody in Homeland and received nominations for his performance as Henry VIII in Wolf Hall.

The British actor told Romesh he only started taking his music career ‘a bit more seriously’ in recent years.

He released his first album Mission Creep in 2023 and performed the national anthem at the Grand Prix in Silverstone.

Sweet Chaos comes out in June, with Damian set to tour the UK in October and November.
