AN OSCAR-NOMINATED actress who starred in a beloved Hollywood flick has died at the age of 77.
Penelope Milford was up for the Best Supporting Actress in 1979 for her role as Vi Munson in the 1979 classic Coming Home.
The American stage and screen icon died in Saugerties, New York, her brother Doug confirmed.
Milford became a household name during the 70s and 80s as her acting career skyrocketed following a successful stint on Broadway.
As well as Coming Home she also starred in Norman Mailer’s notorious indie classic Maidstone in 1970, Ken Russell’s 1977 biopic Valentino and Franco Zeffirelli’s Endless Love in 1981.
Milford then moved into the world of TV where she landed several notable roles.
She acted alongside Henry Fonda, Cloris Leachman and Timothy Hutton in the Emmy-winning TV play The Oldest Living Graduate.
In 1984, she was lauded for her performance in the landmark TV film The Burning Bed which focused on marital abuse.
The show also starred Farrah Fawcett and was hugely successful as it managed to earn numerous accolades, including a WGA award and a Golden Globe.
Mlford would go on to start teaching at film schools in Chicago and Minneapolis after growing dissatisfied with Hollywood.
