Orlando Bloom was tired of ‘hiding’ relationship issues with Katy Perry… as insiders reveal MONTHS of struggles before split

Orlando Bloom is happy to be feeling like his ‘normal self’ again after enduring months of make or break moments with Katy Perry as the pair started to ‘disconnect’ and lead two separate lives.

The couple, who were last pictured together at the Vanity Fair Oscars party in March, weathered weeks of split rumors before their beak up was confirmed by PEOPLE on Wednesday.

The pair started to grow apart toward the end of last year, according to an insider who told the Daily Mail that by the New Year, it became ‘easier to live their individual lives instead of a life together.’

And despite previously breaking up and reconciling, the source says this time is for good.

‘They had broken up before and in the following years things could get tense and to a point where it was often make or break, and they would choose to make up,’ the insider said. ‘But shortly after her Video Vanguard Award and performance in September, they started to disconnect more as she was getting ready to release music, go on tour and take the space flight.

‘After the holidays and into the New Year, it was just one little thing after another.’

‘He isn’t going to try to get her back,’ they added. ‘It’s over and he has accepted it.’

Bloom, 48, and Perry, 40, first met and bonded over a shared love of In-N-Out burger at a Golden Globes party in 2016. They had a brief breakup in 2017, but by March 2018 they reconciled.

The pair got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2019, with Bloom presenting Perry with a giant flower-shaped rock, believed to be worth $5 million. They welcomed their daughter, Daisy Dove, in August 2020.

The couple were reportedly set to marry in Japan that summer, but were forced to postpone due to the coronavirus pandemic, with sources previously telling the Daily Mail that work commitments later got in the way and wedding plans were ultimately abandoned.

Bloom appeared to hint at troubles last year, telling comedian and TV host Trevor Noah that he and Perry would frequently ask, ‘How do we do this?’

‘She definitely demands that I evolve and I feel I do the same for her,’ he said in April 2024. ‘That makes for fireworks, pardon the pun, but it also makes for a lot of fun and a lot of growth. I wouldn’t change it for anything even when sometimes it feels like “how do we do this”, because we’ve got these two giant careers and lives and hers… it’s like a universe sometimes.’

The pair will now focus on how to co-parent their four-year-old daughter, who was publicly seen for the first time when her mom took part in the much-derided Blue Origin space flight earlier this year.

Bloom has successfully navigated co-parenting before, following his divorce from Miranda Kerr in 2013. The couple, who first met in 2007, share 14-year-old son Flynn. The exes have remained friends, with Kerr hailing Bloom as a ‘great dad’ and telling fans it was all ‘good’ not long after their split.

Perry’s prior divorce, however, was less amicable. The singer was married to British comedian Russell Brand for 14 months before he called time on their brief union via text message on New Year’s Eve 2011, just minutes before she was scheduled to perform in front of thousands. She later described him as ‘very controlling.’

Perry and Bloom ‘are both relieved that they don’t have to deal with a messy divorce as they both believe they can figure out how to handle co-parenting,’ our source said. ‘Right now they need their space but they will both figure out what is best for Daisy.’

For exes needing space, they have been granted plenty of it, with the estranged pair currently 10,000 miles apart. Perry is halfway through a four-night residency in Adelaide, Australia, and will head back to America next month for the US leg of her Lifetimes Tour, before setting off for dates in Europe, Asia and the United Arab Emirates where the tour will wrap on Dec. 7.

Meanwhile, Bloom is partying in Venice, Italy for Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s $20 million wedding.

The actor, famed for roles in Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lord of the Rings franchise, is said to be feeling a sense of relief at no longer having to hide his relationship turmoil, and the upcoming nuptials are proving the perfect distraction from any heartbreak.

Bloom has been throwing himself into the festivities and was pictured greeting Kim Kardashian with a kiss before hanging out with fellow bachelor and divorced dad Tom Brady on Thursday.

Later that night he raised eyebrows as he enjoyed the company of a mystery brunette woman at a lavish pre-wedding party.

The pair were spotted leaving the Madonna dell Orto cloisters after guests were forced to end the night early following a freak thunderstorm in the city of love.

But our source said Bloom, a practitioner of Nichiren Buddhism, is not planning to lead a ‘playboy’ lifestyle anytime soon.

‘He is happy to be out and about at Jeff’s wedding,’ they said. ‘He just wants to live life. Be his normal self. With that, he’s not going to start living this playboy lifestyle, but he is feeling better that he no longer has to hide his relationship problems anymore.’
