Oleksandr Usyk makes sensational career switch as heavyweight boxing king lands another title with new side hustle

OLEKSANDR USYK has added another title to his name — but this time it’s away from the ring.

The heavyweight king has stepped into football after taking on a major role with Ukrainian Premier League outfit FC Polissya.

Usyk, already a global icon in boxing, has been confirmed as a vice-president of the club.

It marks a stunning new chapter in the undefeated champion’s career.

And it’s not just a ceremonial role either.

The 39-year-old superstar has already been hands-on with the team.

Earlier this year, Usyk even laced up his boots to feature in a friendly match.

He turned out for Polissya in a clash against MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps back in January, against German legend Thomas Muller

The boxing superstar has also shared the pitch with Luis Figo, Andriy Shevchenko, Kaka, Carles Puyol, Cafu, Edwin van der Sar, and Petr Cech.

But Usyk’s passion for football is no secret, as the three-time undisputed champion has often spoken about his love for football alongside his boxing dominance.

Now he’s taken things to another level behind the scenes.

Despite his new venture, Usyk is far from done in boxing.

In his last outing, Usyk beat Daniel Dubois for the undisputed world heavyweight titles at Wembley Stadium in July 2025, where Usyk won via a fifth-round knockout.

The unified heavyweight champion has a clash with kickboxing star Rico Verhoeven on May 23.

The pair have agreed to a wild WBC world title fight staged at the Pyramids of Giza.

Meanwhile, Usyk has also been spending time back home in Ukraine.

He recently hosted former rival and now good friend Anthony Joshua in Kyiv amid the ongoing conflict.

The duo have created a strong friendship since their two fights where Usyk won in 2021 and 2022 via points decisions.

Joshua now trains with team Usyk and is training to be back in the ring for July this year.

Usyk is still firmly focused on legacy as he wants the winner of Fabio Wardley v Daniel Dubois and then a trilogy with Tyson Fury to wrap up an illustrious career.
