
A PENSIONER has died after his Range Rover plunged into a canal despite cops jumping into the water to save him.
The officers managed to rescue the 74-year-old man from the water but tragically he later died at the scene.
Police were called to reports of a silver Range Rover Evoque in the canal near Saltaire, Bradford on Sunday night.
Pictures show the Range Rover almost fully submerged in the canal following the collision.
Emergency services raced to the scene and brave officers waded into the water to save the man.
They pulled him from the water in an attempted rescue.
He then received medical treatment but was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers have asked that anyone with information come forward.
A spokesperson from West Yorkshire Police said: “”Police are investigating after a fatal road traffic collision where a man has died in Saltaire.

“Medical treatment was given to a 74-year-old man but sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area prior to the collision or who saw the vehicle enter the water.
Information can be given via 101 quoting log 1396 of December 7.”

Moments before the officers raced to the scene the police car was hit with a brick, reports YorkshireLive.
Patrolling officers said they were the targets of a “mindless attack” on Sunday evening.
Officers from Keigley’s Neighbourhood Policing Team have shared details of the two incidents as a “stark reminder of the challenges our officers face every day”.
