NYPD Officers Attacked with Snowballs – HotAir

A blizzard hit New York City this week leaving a lot of snow on the ground. Yesterday afternoon a bunch of kids gathered in Washington Square Park in Manhattan for a snowball fight. Early on it seemed like the tone was pretty much about having fun.

But as more teens showed up things got out of control. They guy who filmed this clip below got hit in the face and had a bloody nose.

There’s a bathroom or something in the park that has a flat roof. Some kids climbed up there, probably to get a better angle, and the police were called out to get them down. And that’s when things turned really ugly.

A handful of NYPD officers showed up and quickly became targets for the entire mob. This wasn’t harmless fun anymore. They were throwing big chunks of snow and ice at the officer’s heads and trying their best to injure them.

Gee, I wonder where they all these Democrats in New York got the idea that police are the enemy?

As the officers tried to leave they got followed and pelted some more.

Some were quick to denounce the mob’s behavior, including former police officer Mayor Eric Adams. He took a shot at Mamdani without naming him.

And the politicians who constantly bash the police and refuse to have their backs are setting a terrible example. Leadership matters. Tone matters.

ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS must speak out and make it clear that attacks on our officers, in any form, will not stand.

Back the police. Full stop.

Also former governor Andrew Cuomo. He also took a shot at Mamdani:

But with a mayor who has a history of calling the police “racist, evil, wicked and corrupt,” he set the tone.

Words have consequences. We are seeing that in the growing disrespect for law enforcement — just as we’ve seen it in the rise in antisemitism.

Real leaders understand that. This mayor does not.

NYPD Commissioner Tisch condemned the behavior but didn’t blame anyone.

The PBA:

The Mayor did eventually offer a statement. Of course he downplayed it.

Show respect to the cops, unlike me. In case you’ve forgotten, Mamdani hates the police. As late as 2023 he had this message on his campaign website:

“We can’t reform our way out of a racist police system that’s working exactly as designed — as a means of control over Black & brown New Yorkers,” he wrote…

Remember this? This is also just 2 1/2 years ago.

He never changed. He just got elected. We’re probably going to see a lot more disrespect like this toward the NYPD under his leadership. The NYPD had been hiring like crazy in the past year to make up for significant attrition in previous years. We’ll have to wait and see if incidents like this one result in more resignations.
