As an ‘icemageddon’ took over the Big Apple, Democratic-Socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani joined Brooklynites clearing snow, despite his clumsy shoveling technique.
The monstrous Winter Storm Fern shattered records, dumping nearly 11.5 inches of snow on NYC in its worst blizzard in almost a decade.
As the boroughs were buried in powdery white, Mamdani took to the streets to help shovel out New Yorkers.
Though many were quick to mock his shoveling skills on social media.
In videos obtained by ABC7, the hatless mayor is seen nearly folding over as he shovels a mountain of snow, then heaving it to the side of the pile.
Many critiqued his form, with one person commenting writing on X, ‘You can tell Mamdani has never touched a shovel in his life.’
His back-breaking shoveling came after Governor Kathy Hochul warned New Yorkers on Sunday to shovel properly to avoid injury.
‘Do not bend over to shovel,’ she told residents in a briefing.

While out on the streets of Brooklyn, many took to social media to mock the Democratic-Socialist mayor’s shoveling form
‘You bend down your knees. You want to bend down so you can protect your back. Also, you do not need to have a high amount of snow on the shovel.’
She added this as a warning, noting that even her own neighbors have suffered heart attacks from lifting heavy snow.
‘It’s better to take multiple smaller bites at it, lift smaller amounts of snow, toss it aside,’ Hochul explained.
‘But do not try to go for the big, massive shovelful of snow because regardless of your health, this could cause a heart attack.’
The viral video of the Big Apple mayor shoveling circulated on social media, as Hochul appeared to take a back-handed jab at Mamdani.
‘Thanks for helping out our neighbors, but put on a hat!’
Many joked about the Democratic Socialist mayor’s snow-clearing skills, with one posting, ‘Bro looks like he’s trying to dig a hole instead of clear the road.’
Nonetheless, Mamdani didn’t let Hochul’s chilly jabs or social media critiques of his form stop his shoveling.

Winter Storm Fern, one of the deadliest US blizzards, has so far claimed 25 lives.
Mayor Mamdani’s office said at least eight people were found dead outside as temperatures plunged between Saturday and Monday morning, though the cause of their deaths remained under investigation.
