Number of Channel migrant crossings this year exceeds 10,000 – with figures expected to jump higher this week amid warm weather

The number of Channel migrant crossings this year exceeded 10,000 yesterday – with figures expected to jump up even more this week.

More than 200 people made the journey, with one boat seen arriving in Dover carrying around 50 migrants.

Some 9,885 arrivals from France had been logged as of Sunday, according to provisional Home Office figures.

Last year, the 10,000 number of crossings was reached on May 24, while in 2023 it was on June 17 – making this the earliest point in the calendar year that the milestone has been reached.

The spike comes as this week is forecast to be the warmest of 2025, with better weather often resulting in more migrants attempting the crossing.

The number of migrants arriving on small boats had already reached a new record for the first four months of 2025, as the 9,885 figure was up 38 per cent on the number recorded at this time last year (7,167) and 72 per cent higher than in 2023 (5,745).

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said: ‘Britain’s borders are being torn apart under Labour.

‘This year is already the worst on record for small boat crossings… but Labour just sit on their hands.

‘Under new Conservative leadership, we are serious about tackling this crisis with deliverable reforms, but Labour continue to block these at every turn.

‘Labour’s open-door chaos is a betrayal of the British people, and we will not let them get away with it.’

A Home Office spokesman said: ‘We all want to end dangerous small boat crossings, which threaten lives and undermine our border security.’
