SKY SPORTS commentators blasted Sunderland’s sloppy defending in Sunday’s Tyne-Wear Derby.
Anthony Gordon gave Newcastle an early lead after an errant pass by Sunderland’s Luke O’Nien from a short goal kick.
Co-commentator Alan Smith said: “Not at the start of the derby, just don’t do it.”
His Sky commentary partner added: “It is a horrible error from Sunderland that has gifted Newcastle an opening goal in this contest.
“Anthony Gordon, ruthless with the finish, but O’Nien and Ellborg with cause for regret.
“We’re a few minutes into this derby, why are you playing it short to O’Nien to start off?”
Under pressure from Nick Woltemade, O’Nien rifled a pass straight into the path of Joelinton.
Woltemade then picked up the loose ball and squared for Gordon to finish past a helpless Ellborg.
St James’ Park erupted, as the Magpies players ran to the corner flag to spark jubilant celebrations.
Ahead of the derby, clashes broke out and bottles were hurled between both sets of fans.
