Newcastle dealt blow as £50m bid for Jorgen Strand Larsen REJECTED by Wolves amid Alexander Isak transfer saga

NEWCASTLE have been told they will not get Jorgen Strand Larsen at any price – after having a £50million bid rejected by Wolves.

The Toon are scrambling to add at least one striker before the close of the window next week with Alexander Isak‘s future up in the air.

Whether Isak leaves St James’ Park or not, Eddie Howe still wants another striker following Callum Wilson‘s exit earlier this summer.

Wolves do not want to lose the Norway international, who scored 14 Premier League goals last season, with so little time to replace him.

Newcastle are also pursuing a deal for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa – but Bees boss Keith Andrews is confident he will stay in London.

The Magpies have been pushing to land the Congo international, who has been absent from first team training as he looks to force a move.

He has not been named in the Bees squad for either of their Premier League games so far this season and will not face Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup.

Wissa still hopes a deal can be struck in the next few days, though Brentford have dug their heels in to push Newcastle closer to their £50million valuation.

Andrews said: “We’ve got a phenomenal group of players and staff that has been built over numerous years, where there’s a real culture of togetherness, a real underpinning of respect throughout the building.

“People walk in and they feel that. Anybody that’s not attached to the football club can sense the club is run in a certain way.

“He won’t be involved [vs Bournemouth]. Again, it’s just a decision based around what I feel is best for the group.

“The focus is on the group tomorrow. Yoane won’t be involved.

“As far as I’m concerned, there’s been no movement in any way and I fully expect Yoane to be here come next Tuesday.”

Asked if Wissa would be able to be reintegrated into the squad if he does not leave west London, Andrews added: “That’s the plan.

“If I didn’t think it would be, my stance on it would probably be different.”
