
A newborn baby is in a serious condition in hospital after its pregnant mother was hit by an e-bike.
Police have launched an investigation following the collision between the bike and the pedestrian, who is in her 30s, in Poole.
The woman was walking along Herbert Avenue at around 3.50pm on Monday when the rider hit her and then fled the scene, Dorset Police said.
She attended hospital for treatment following the incident, which took place close to the junction with Manor Avenue.
Her baby has since been born and remains in a serious condition in hospital.
Police officers have launched an investigation and are appealing for any witnesses or those with dashcam footage to come forward.
There were two people on the e-bike at the time of the collision, the force said.
Police Constable Dan Blagden, of the Roads Policing Team, said: ‘We are carrying out a full investigation into the circumstances of this collision and I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please contact us.
‘I would also like to hear from anyone who may have captured relevant dashcam footage or witnessed the manner of the riding of the e-bike prior to the collision.
‘We understand there was a pillion passenger on the e-bike at the time of the incident and we would ask this person and the rider to come forward and speak to police.’
