Streaming giant Netflix has experienced a worldwide outage affecting millions of customers who say the service is not working.
Users reported receiving an error code while trying to log into the service on Thursday.
According to Downdetector, Netflix started encountering widespread problems around 2pm ET.
The largest outages have been reported in cities like Boston, New York, Chicago, Dallas, and Los Angeles – where the company is based.
One person claimed that they contacted Netflix who acknowledged there was an ongoing issue with the service.
‘I called Netflix today and they said it’s a new problem and they’re working on it,’ the person wrote on Downdetector’s message board.
Another Netflix user in Washington state said: ‘I was signed out of Netflix on my PS5 which never happens I tried to sign in again and now every time it goes to load it says unable to connect to Netflix try again every time I try again shows me the same thing.’
As of 2025, Netflix has over 300 million subscribers worldwide. More than 81 million Netflix users in the US.
On their website, Netflix noted that ‘wait times for chat support are longer than usual right now’ in response to questions about the streaming service being down Thursday.
