Though unable to make it in person, Naomi expressed in an Instagram Story how honoured she was to be invited to this year’s event.

Set to take place at New York City‘s Metropolitan Museum of Art, this year’s gala takes the theme of Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.

Anna’s Met Gala co-chairs comprise of Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and LeBron James.

The supermodel wrote: “Congratulations to Anna Wintour, the brilliant designers, the dedicated Met Gala team, and stunning attendees of tonight’s extraordinary celebration.

“I have to say, what perfect timing for the ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’ theme.

“It really celebrates how Black dandyism has shaped fashion and how fashion has been a way for Black people to express who they are and claim their power.

“I was so honored to be invited to tonight’s big event, but regretfully cannot make it.”

Naomi also paid a touching tribute to her late friend André Leon Talley, a longtime Met Gala fixture and former Vogue editor-at-large.

She added: “Even though I’m not there in person, I’m with you all in spirit, carried by the legacy of my beloved friend, the late Andre Leon Talley.

“His commanding presence, vision and belief that fashion is art helped shape what the Met Gala is presenting tonight.

“I can’t wait to see how everyone mixes African and European style traditions on those famous steps tonight! The creativity will be amazing.

“With all my love and admiration – Naomi Campbell.”

Anna, today, set the record straight about a Met Gala rule rumour after years of speculation.

For many years, it has been believed that the media executive must approve every outfit worn by guests.

But, now, Anna has defiantly squashed the years-long speculation.

Sitting down with Good Morning America‘s Michael Strahan, Anna has revealed that no, despite the rumors, she does not approve A-listers’ outfits ahead of the event.

“Is it true that you know in advance what all the guests will be wearing?” Michael asked.

Replying with a chuckle, Anna said: “No.”

She then added: “Many call and ask for our advice, so we try and help some of them as best we can.

“Some, [I have] no idea.”

STYLE ADVICE FOR ATTENDEES

The iconic event, which takes place annually on the first Monday of May, is hosted by Anna, who has now confirmed that she enjoys offering style advice to attendees.

Michael then said to Anna: “Colman Domingo said he’d text you a photo of what he was wearing.”

Anna then confirmed that there had been “a discussion” about his look for the event.

“He said he quote ‘died’ with the response when you told him it was a ‘work of art’.”

Anna replied: “It was his idea. It was a clever idea.”

Michael asked Anna if she had seen looks from the other co-chairs.

Speaking about British racing driver Lewis and his ensemble for the night, Anna shared how he wanted to reveal his look on the day.

“Lewis, I’m not sure I entirely believe him,” she said.

“Says he doesn’t have a picture, but it’s great.”

She later added: “I trust Lewis. Lewis totally knows what he’s doing.”

‘PERFECT’ LOOKS PENDING

Anna then dished on Pharrell Williams and A$AP Rocky’s outfits.

“Pharrell and Rocky have both described to me what they’re wearing,” she said.

“It sounds perfect,” Anna revealed, hinting at their perfect Met looks.

Then, Anna decided to give a glimpse at her planned outfit for the fashion event of the year.

“It’s a combination of the reference to a creation that a design that Virgil [Abloh] made some years ago with Pharrell’s reinterpretation,” she revealed.
