MYSTERY continues to shroud the death of a missing man after both his feet washed up on beaches 500 miles apart.
Pawel Martyniak was last seen outside his house in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, after assaulting his mother and sister.
The 21-year-old left after the row, which saw both women taken to hospital, on November 30, 2021, but never returned.
An inquest heard he had been acting “bizarrely” the day before his disappearance.
He was arrested for common assault at 4am but released that afternoon and picked up by his mother, Anna.
Detectives later recovered his feet from two beaches 500 miles apart in March 2023.
The first body part was found on the coast of Sweden, on March 2, with a sock and black Adidas trainer.
A dog walker discovered the second foot on March 21 at Winterton beach, also with a sock and black trainer.
An inquest into his death, held at Norfolk Coroner’s Court this week, heard DNA checks confirmed the feet belonged to the former Notre Dame High School pupil.
Mr Martyniak’s family told the inquest his death was a “preventable tragic event”.
They claimed the 21-year-old had not been given “the necessary care and treatment” for his mental health struggles.
Experts told the hearing Mr Martyniak had been experiencing gender dysphoria and questioning his sexuality.
A doctor at his GP surgery told the inquest before the tragedy Mr Martyniak had started to identify as female.
But, his family believe he had been suffering an episode of psychosis.
A health professional involved in Mr Martyniak’s care said it was a “possible” explanation, but gender dysphoria was also possible.
Yvonne Blake, the area coroner, told the inquest his death is still considered unascertained.
Mrs Blake concluded: “Pawel Martyniak left his family home on November 30, 2021. His mother and sister state he assaulted them and then left and they went for help to a neighbour.
“He was briefly seen on doorbell footage walking up Carrel Road, Gorleston, but not seen thereafter with any certainty.
“He was searched for as a high risk missing person in the early hours of December 1, 2021. All police and family efforts to find him were fruitless.
“On March 2, 2023 a trainer with a sock and a bone structure of a human foot in it was washed ashore in Sweden.
“This was later established to belong to Pawel. On March 21, 2023 another trainer with a sock was found with a piece of bone on Winterton beach by a dog walker.
“It was not possible to ascertain any cause of death.”
