Dutch cops are searching for a missing British tourist who disappeared after telling his friends at the airport that he had forgotten his passport.
Ryan Jones, 34, reportedly told his pals at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol that he did not have his travel documents with him and needed to go and get them before their flights on May 4.
After walking away from the group at 2:17pm, Ryan reportedly called his friends for a short time, but since then he has not been heard from.
Police have since asked the public for information regarding his whereabouts, and have asked people to look out for ‘a large man, 6’3″ tall, possibly wearing a white baseball cap and has a tattoo on his right forearm.’
The Netherlands has seen its fair share of British travellers going missing, and these incidents can sometimes end with tragedy.
In 2023, a Brit who went missing after being dropped off at a Dutch hospital by a friend following a ‘psychotic breakdown and hallucinations’ was found dead in a ditch near the medical facility.
Thomas Delafay, 20, from Plymouth, was last seen when he was dropped off by a friend at the Dijklander hospital in the city of Hoorn, 20 miles north of Amsterdam.
After a search operation by Dutch police, Mr Delafay’s body was discovered in a ditch near where he was last seen, according to Dutch police on Twitter.

He had suffered from a psychotic break and hallucinations before his death, his sister Holly Delafay told Plymouth Live.
She shared the news of her brothers death on Facebook, saying her heart was ‘broken’ and her soul was ‘crushed’.
She added: ‘We will miss you so much, I don’t know what to do with my life now that you’re not in it. I feel so lost without my baby brother.
‘You mean the absolute world to me and I’m so lost and broken without you. You’re my best friend. I love you so so much. Fly high and rest easy baby bro.’
She also thanked those who shared her posts about her missing brother and said: ‘We want to thank everyone who helped to find my brother and those who did there upmost and went above and beyond to offer their help and resources to find him. We love you all so so much.’
A spokesperson for the Dutch police said their thoughts were with his family.
They said while they were investigating how Mr Delafay ended up in the ditch and what the cause of death was, they did not believe his death was the result of a crime.
Mr Delafay was taken to the hospital after taking drugs at a house party, according to Dutch newspaper AD, but never entered the building after arriving.
He didn’t have his mobile phone, money or his passport with him when he vanished
Police appealed to the public to watch out for a purple-haired man on their CCTV footage hoping to find him, while his family asked for the appeal to be shared via social media only to be notified of his death on the weekend.
An Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said at the time: ‘We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in the Netherlands, and are in contact with the local authorities.’
