Cops are continuing their enquiries but have reportedly “received intelligence” that the pensioner is dead, Nottinghamshire Live reported.

Two days after he vanished, the body of Brian’s son Charles was discovered in an outbuilding at the family’s farm in Langford, Nottinghamshire.

Cops say they are linking the death to Brian’s disappearance after Charles, 52, reportedly ploughed a vehicle into his brother James Wright and another local.

Neither of the two suffered serious injuries and James’ death is not being treated as suspicious.

Specialist teams continue to search for clues leading to Brian’s whereabouts.

The 82-year-old was praised by locals as a “lovely man” who fundraised for his local church and served on Winthorpe with Langford Parish Council.

One claimed that the pensioner had an argument with son Charles before he disappeared.

The force has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to previous police contact with family members.

“First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of those affected by this tragic incident,” Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, of Notts Police said.

“An investigation into the circumstances surrounding this death is ongoing.

“However, I’d like to reassure members of the community that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

“At this early stage, we believe all parties to be known to each other and there is no wider threat to the public.

“We would also ask the public to respect the privacy of family members at what is an incredibly difficult time for them. They are being supported by specially trained officers.

“Officers remain in the area to carry out a range of inquiries.”

Inspector Charlotte Ellam, district commander for Newark, added: “Mr Wright remains missing but we have launched a homicide investigation after intelligence was received indicating he was sadly deceased.

“Search teams have been deployed to the surrounding area and we will provide further updates when we can.

“These tragic events have understandably caused concern and shock in the local community.”
