MYSTERY surrounds a dead body that was found in a canal as the cops issue an update on their “murder” investigation.

The results of a post mortem on the man’s body didn’t reveal a cause of death and more tests are being carried out

Police have said they still do not know what the cause of death was and more tests are being carried out.

The body was discovered in June and a man was arrested in connection to the incident and remained on bail.

South Yorkshire Police told The Star: “This remains a murder investigation, and there have been no further arrests or charges.

“The man who was arrested in connection remains on bail.

“A post mortem has taken place, however the results remain outstanding pending further analysis.

“Therefore, a cause of death has not yet been confirmed.”

Cops were called to the Tinsley Canal on June 10 following reports of a body being found.

A body of a 39-year-old man was pulled from the water.

Detectives investigating the death arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of murder on June 11 and he has since been released on police bail.

In July, police said they were still investigating the incident as an “unexplained death”.

The man has not been named.

Police released CCTV images of the man who died in a grey jacket and trousers, light-coloured trainers and also carrying a dark Nike rucksack.

It was hoped it might jog the memory of anyone who was in the area at the time and might have seen him.

An appeal was launched for anyone who was on Shirland Lane and Staniforth Road between 4pm and 7.15pm on June 10 and who had any information, to come forward.

They said at the time: “No piece of information is too small, it could be a vital piece of information that could help our team of detectives progress this investigation.”

Anyone with information can contact police online or via 101 quoting incident number 863 of June 10, 2025.
