But the latest note has left her in shock and feeling harassed.

It read: “Stop the excessive noise. The noise is causing us tremendous emotional distress and affecting our daily routine.

HO NO

My ‘grinch’ neighbour sent a pass-agg note about my ‘tacky’ Xmas decorations

“Please reduce the noise level after 9pm.”

Noise curfew laws begin at 11pm through to 7am, so the neighbour’s request seemed a little excessive.

She wrote: “I was just running the dryer… Not even after quiet hours. It was around 9:40pm and the timer was set to finish at 9:50pm.

“It’s not the first time he’s placed a note.”

She then shares some of the other notes left for her, with one complaining about flushing the loo and showering.

Another note read: “Please have some basic respect for those living around you.”

Her downstairs neighbour had accused them of making lots of noise from 1am to 5am.

The noises consisted of ‘loud walking, flushing toilets, cooking, and late-night showers.’

The note continued: “We all have different schedules, but disturbing others every night and throughout the day is simply unacceptable.

“This isn’t just about your habits, it’s about basic human decency.”

She revealed there was no winning with her neighbour, she’d already put down two carpets to help with noise and did her laundry during the day, which was also a problem.

She explained: “If we do laundry during the day, he also complains since he works from home. I work at home too…We don’t cook late at night and are quiet.

“For bathroom use and walking around at night, too bad for him, those are just normal sounds.”

Fortunately, the building manager was on her side and she was keeping the notes as evidence of harassment.

The post went viral on the Reddit forum Apartment Living and many took to the comments to share their thoughts and how to get revenge.

The Top Five Reasons Neighbours Squabble

One study by Compare the Market revealed the top reason British neighbour’s argue

  1. Broken fences – top of the board was broken fences and whose responsibility it was to fix it
  2. Parking: one of the leading drivers of neighbour disputes, with 54.1 per cent of people having issues with people parking in front of their house, parking bay or driveway
  3. Trees – complaints about a neighbour’s tree cracking your garden path was also common with nearly half of participants finding it frustrating
  4. Bin wars – outdoor bin etiquette continues to ignite the most furious debates between neighbours
  5. Nosy Neighbours – some people have their eyes and ears at the ready to have a peek causing problems for others

One person wrote: “Telling someone they can’t flush the toilet after 10:00 is ridiculous. Noise ordinance/quiet hours are for avoiding loud music, exercising, loud TV, yelling, vacuuming, or parties etc. and not for normal household activities like showering, or toilet flushing.”

Another commented: “Complain back. Just leave notes on his door that are even more passive-aggressive.”

“You pay money to live there, you’re allowed to exist,” penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “Jeez. I’m a very noise-sensitive person myself but this is just crazy. If they react that strongly to everyday living noises, then they need to move somewhere that has better sound insulation.”

“No toilet flushing after 10pm?! That man is an idiot. If I need to go to the bathroom I’m going the moment I feel the need to go,” claimed a fifth.

Someone else added: “Be extra loud during the day so you seem quieter at night?”
