My charity shop haul cost less than a takeaway & I sold the buys on Vinted for 4x the price while I slept

LAURA grinned to herself as she tapped her card and paid £18 for her huge charity shop haul full of goodies.

For less than the price of a takeaway, she bagged an impressive selection, which she resold on Vinted later that evening.

To her delight, her second-hand treasure fetched £56, and she expects her total profit to come to just over £80 once everything is sold.

Sharing her tips with her 23.4k followers on her @lauraresells TikTok she showed them an Emma Bridgewater crockery set.

“If you ever see these in a charity shop, grab them. Even if it’s just the mugs on their own, they sell really well.

“My mum collects them, they are highly collectable and they are really expensive brand new.

“I sold these for £40,” she added.

Laura only paid £4.50 for the bowls and plates set from the popular designer.

Next up was something that Laura said was different from her usual charity shop buys.

IN PROFIT

She held up a pretty box filled with audio cassette tapes of The Chronicles of Narnia.

She told viewers: “People still listen to cassette tapes, especially your nans.

“This was £4, I sold it for £25. It had so many favourites, and when I woke up in the morning, it was gone.”

She also found a Yes Lola knitted jumper, which she bought for £3 and sold for £10.

Laura also picked up an M&S knit and a pastel lemon Craighoppers fleece, which she said she was going to save for a later date to sell.

She pointed out that it’s best to wait for spring to sell yellow clothes, as the colour isn’t currently in.

In the caption, she wrote that she’d spent £18.75 altogether and made a profit of £56.25.

She added that with the additional items she plans to sell in a few months, she expects to make a total profit of £80.25.

Followers flocked to the comment section, with one writing: “Emma Bridgewater for £4.50, wow.”

“Great video, thanks for sharing,” said another.

Do you need to pay tax on items sold on Vinted?

QUICK facts on tax from the team at Vinted…

  • The only time that an item might be taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and there is profit (sells for more than you paid for it). Even then, you can use your capital gains tax-free allowance of £3,000 to offset it.
  • Generally, only business sellers trading for profit (buying goods with the purpose of selling for more than they paid for them) might need to pay tax. Business sellers who trade for profit can use a tax-free allowance of £1,000, which has been in place since 2017.

A third wrote: “I love watching stuff like this. I bought some G-Star Raw boots last week for 3 POUND!

“I sold them for 28.50! I probably could have reached more, but I’m new and thought it was a great steal.”

However, some suggested that she needed to be careful on how much she was earning through Vinted, as she may need to pay tax.

Another asked whether or not she gave the charity shop a cut of the money she makes.

“I’m not being rude at all, but I’m keen to know if you ever go back to the charity shops and give them a little extra?” they wrote.

Laura replied: “No I don’t because I spend way more than the everyday customer, I spend hundreds with them per month, thousands a year. I also donate myself to three charities a month.”
