A MUSIC icon has announced he has a brand new album on the way, 15 years after his last release.
It comes after the singer, 82, who has a slew of hits under his belt, was diagnosed with lung cancer and feared he would “never sing again”.
Barry Manilow is returning with new album What A Time, which is set to be released on 5th June and features almost all original material.
In addition to the release, which will be Barry’s 33rd studio album, the musician has dropped a new single; Sun Shine.
The single debuted on BBC Radio 2 this morning.
New York-born Barry’s return to music comes as he recovers from lung cancer.
In December, the singer announced his diagnosis as he said: “As many of you know I recently went through six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks.
“Even though I was over the bronchitis and back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK.
“The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed. It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that is was found so early.
“That’s the good news.”
He went on, “The bad news is that now that the Christmas Gift Of Love concerts are over I’m going into surgery to have the spit removed.
“The doctors do not believe it has spread and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis.
“So that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.”
At the time, a source told the US Sun that many were worried Barry wouldn’t sing again amid the diagnosis.
It’s not the first time he has battled ill health with Barry experiencing several health battles and woes throughout his career, including vocal cord issues, bronchial infections and throat cancer.
In 2020, he revealed he had throat cancer, but overcame the battle thanks to early detection and treatment.
