A MUM-to-be has pleaded guilty to fleeing a horror crash that killed a young brother and sister while they were on an e-scooter.
Roman Casselden, 16, and nine-year-old Darcie were struck by Deimante Ziobryte’s Audi in an “unavoidable” crash.
But instead of stopping to check on the youngsters, the 21-year-old “continued to drive and didn’t stop”.
Ziobryte eventually pulled over but rang family members instead of phoning the police.
Roman and Darcie tragically could not be saved and died from catastrophic injuries at the scene in Pitsea, Essex.
Ziobryte, who is pregnant, appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court today where she pleaded guilty to failing to stop at the scene of a collision.
Essex Police said previously she would face no further action in relation to a possible offence of causing death by dangerous driving.
Ziobryte was warned she could face jail by presiding magistrate Paul Fisher when she is sentenced on May 6.
Prosecutor Rohini Majumdar said she was driving an Audi when Darcie and Roman came to a junction on the e-scooter.
She added: “The defendant swerved to avoid a collision but unfortunately they made contact and the two youths on the e-scooter have suffered fatal injuries as a result.”
“Following this collision the defendant has continued to drive and failed to stop until they got to a lane nearby where they stopped the car and made multiple phone calls to family members, not to police or the emergency services.
“At no point did the defendant return to the scene of the collision to speak to police.”
Prosecutors had asked at an earlier hearing for time to consider whether any further charges would be brought but confirmed no other counts would be “made today”.
Inquests into the deaths of Roman and Darcie heard that both siblings died of traumatic head injury.
Essex area coroner Michelle Brown said emergency services attended and Darcie was pronounced dead at 7.10pm and Roman at 7.50pm.
Paying tribute to Darcie previously, mum Emma described her as “a wonderful individual who brought joy and inspiration to those lucky enough to know her”.
She also said Roman’s “legacy is one of selflessness, compassion, and an unwavering belief in the goodness of people”.
Emma added: “Though they are no longer here in person, their love, kindness, and spirit live on in the hearts of all who knew them.
“Their impact will never fade, and their memory will forever be cherished.
“Rest in peace, our beautiful angels, Roman and Darcie.”
