Yesterday afternoon I wrote about the ongoing skirmishes between President Trump and Tucker Carlson. Some are already calling this a “MAGA Civil War” and as David pointed out this morning the divide within the MAGA-sphere is between those who want us to stay out of foreign wars at all costs (Tucker Carlson, Steve Bannon) and those who think Iran creating a nuclear arsenal is an exception to that rule (President Trump). Hence the strong language from Trump yesterday.
Last night, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene made clear that she sides with Tucker Carlson and doesn’t appreciate Trump calling him “kooky.”
Tucker Carlson is one of my favorite people.
He fiercely loves his wife, children, and our country.
Since being fired by the neocon network Fox News, he has more popularity and viewers than ever before.
He unapologetically believes the same things I do.
That if we don’t fight… pic.twitter.com/tRxHdYp2bV

Tucker Carlson is one of my favorite people. He fiercely loves his wife, children, and our country. Since being fired by the neocon network Fox News, he has more popularity and viewers than ever before. He unapologetically believes the same things I do. That if we don’t fight for our own country and our own people then we will no longer have a country for our children and our grandchildren. And foreign wars/intervention/regime change put America last, kill innocent people, are making us broke, and will ultimately lead to our destruction. That’s not kooky. That’s what millions of Americans voted for. It’s what we believe is America First.
Not only is she siding with Carlson personally, she’s co-signing his earlier attack on Trump as not genuinely “America First.” She writes “It’s what we believe is America First” in a way that leaves Trump out. MTG also appeared on One America News Network yesterday to express her concern that a US attack on Iran really would divide MAGA.
“If the United States strikes Iran, what will that do to President Trump’s coalition?” her former congressional colleague, host Matt Gaetz, asked.
“It’s going to fracture it, and it’s already fracturing it,” Greene said. “We’re seeing it all over online. We’re seeing it from people. I just got back from the grocery store, and someone came up and talked to me about it.”…
Americans are worried, Greene claimed, because “they’re seeing on TV that now we’ve got to go fight Iran, because Israel said so, and because Israel picked the fight and attacked them first, and we’re being threatened that, ‘oh no, if we don’t go do this, we’re going to be bombed out of existence.’”
“Well, the truth is, if we get involved in this war, we are going to see terror attacks right here on our homeland,” she added.
Meanwhile, others have noticed that Vice-President Vance, who is friendly with Tucker Carlson, has been unusually quiet lately about his criticism of Trump. While Carlson (and now MTG) are attacking the president, Vance is attacking David Reaboi this morning over this tweet.
He should probably find out who on JD’s team is leaking to Politico and Axios. https://t.co/oaxT2zBUDy

Labeling someone a loser for supporting DeSantis in the primary doesn’t seem like a great way to tone down an intra-party fight.
This loser (who supported Desantis in the 2024 primary) is now attacking my team, which has been working tirelessly to implement the president’s agenda.
He has no evidence for this BS smear because there isn’t any. https://t.co/VboBd2ZxMU

Hasn’t DeSantis been on Trump’s team for a while now?
Maybe I am missing something…but isn’t DeSantis now an ally of the President’s? https://t.co/bSfJaQjBgh

Also, where is that kind of snappy comeback to Tucker and MTG when they directly attack President Trump over Iran? We’re not seeing that from Vance so far.
You would think a VP should be out there defending the president’s policy, at least from the most insane attacks. Haven’t seen it lately, tho.

Attacking ppl for supporting DeSantis in primaries seems bizarre, considering DeSantis has been fully supportive of your administration. At some point you need to address your relationship with the person who has been undermining the Trump-Vance admin, @TuckerCarlson https://t.co/2VYotjMVGw

Guy that literally called Trump “Hitler” and tweeted he voted for McMuffin is trying to shame someone for supporting a different candidate this primary… This response is from a glass house and seems over reactionary. Somebody close keeps saying stuff that President Trump has to… https://t.co/sLn09RoXtO

As for the original suggestion that someone in Vance’s camp was leaking to Tucker, this may be where that is coming from.
Tucker Carlson’s son Buckley works for JD. https://t.co/LIYBioID2l pic.twitter.com/4BHB8KgpgB

The drama never ends and that’s not good for the president who already has plenty of detractors on the left and doesn’t need a bunch on the right.
Update: As Ed notes here, VP Vance did put up a post defending the president’s position on Iran (hours after the criticism mentioned above) but that post does not directly call out any of the people leading the charge against Trump, i.e. no mention of Tucker Carlson, Bannon, MTG, Gaetz, etc. Vance is basically sub tweeting Tucker Carlson here. [emphasis added]
He may decide he needs to take further action to end Iranian enrichment. That decision ultimately belongs to the president. And of course, people are right to be worried about foreign entanglement after the last 25 years of idiotic foreign policy.
But I believe the president has earned some trust on this issue. And having seen this up close and personal, I can assure you that he is only interested in using the American military to accomplish the American people’s goals. Whatever he does, that is his focus.
Meanwhile, Trump is upping the ante.
