Mr Blobby’s comeback at centre of trademark row after superfan bought rights to become tribute act

MR Blobby’s comeback is at the centre of a trademark row after a superfan bought the rights to become a tribute act.

Joseph Cook, 37, does guest appearances as the pink, yellow-spotted prankster after making the costume by hand.

He saw the BBC’s 1990s trademarks were dead so spent £1,000 registering new ones.

Joseph, of Ipswich, said: “All I want is to perform in the suit and spread joy.

“If they accept that, I will happily hand over the rights.”

Last week we reported Unique Television, set up by Noel Edmonds in 1985, made its own application.

Unique said: “Joseph had been over enthusiastic in, innocently, making applications infringing rights.

“It appears the misunderstanding has been amicably resolved.”

Mr Blobby featured on BBC show Noel’s House Party from 1992 to 1999. He even had a Christmas No 1 in 1993 with novelty hit Mr Blobby.

Last year he surprised Noel on Good Morning Britain, delighting the viewers.

Last week, we revealed how the jiggly-eyed comic character has found a new generation of fans thanks to online clips of his antics.

Blobby’s TV return is expected to include promo appearances and telly spots.
