Moment suspect flees undercover cops during car stop arrest attempt in North London

A suspect has been captured on camera fleeing during an attempted arrest on a North London high street.

Witnesses shared footage of a man escaping from his car was swooped on the High Road in North Finchley at about 12noon on Tuesday.

Footage showed windows of the vehicle being smashed before an occupant runs off.

That was followed by a chase along the street in one of the capital’s outlying suburbs.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told the Daily Mail: ‘On Tuesday, 2 September at approximately 11:45hrs police boxed a suspect car in on North Finchley Road, N12, after signalling it to stop.

‘The driver, a man aged 32, received minor injuries as he climbed out the broken window of his car.

‘He was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply. He remains in police custody for questioning. 

‘A female officer was taken to hospital as a precaution having suffered minor injuries. Road closures which were in place have now been removed.’

The clash happened in broad daylight, with onlookers expressing their shock.

The Daily Mail has asked the Metropolitan Police for further details about Tuesday’s incident

The incident happened in the North London suburb of Finchley around midday on Tuesday

She has since told the Daily Mail: ‘I was just grabbing some lunch and then saw how it all kicked off.

‘There were lots of people in the street watching.

‘I’ve worked here for a few years and have never seen anything like that.’ 

The suburb is part of the town of Finchley previously known for its local MP Margaret Thatcher.

About 400m away from today’s incident is culture venue Arts Depot.

The current MP for the area, in the Chipping Barnet constituency, is Labour’s Dan Tomlinson, who was yesterday appointed as Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury
