Moment sobbing driver hands cops beer bottle he was chugging after killing girl, 17, in crash while on cocktail of drugs

THIS is the moment a sobbing drunk driver who killed a 17-year-old girl in a crash while driving high on drugs hands over a bottle of beer to cops.

Keilan Roberts, 22, had taken ketamine, cocaine, ecstasy and had been drinking when he killed passenger Chloe Hayman in Fochriw, South Wales.

Roberts had met Chloe in a nightclub just hours before and offered her a lift home with his friends.

He had intended to drop Chloe off the following morning but changed his mind and asked his pals to leave him where his Skoda Octavia was parked.

He then proceeded to attempt to drive home with Chloe, later smashing into cattle grid railings on a mountain road.

Chloe was left with fatal chest injuries and tragically died at the scene after the railings pierced the windscreen of Roberts’ Skoda, which cops said would have failed its MOT.

Footage captured on the bodycam of a responding officer shows the immediate aftermath of the horror smash.

Roberts can be seen standing on the side of the road, looking dazed and confused while holding a Peroni bottle.

As an officer approaches the 22-year-old he can be heard saying: “I’m just going to speak with the man who is thought to be the driver.”

Shaken, Roberts confirms he was driving the car and tells the officers who he is.

Cops then tell him to put his beer bottle on the floor before he is taken into custody and breathalysed.

Roberts explains to cops: “I was driving home. I had four bottles of Peroni in my car and that happened.

“I will be honest with you. Soon as that happened, I drank it all at once.”

Officers respond by asking Roberts if he has been drinking in the last 20 minutes and he replies: “In the last 20 minutes? Yes, yes.”

The footage has been seen for the first time ahead of it featuring in new series 999: What Happened Next on Channel 4 at 10pm tonight.

Roberts was allegedly seen by a witness drinking in the aftermath of the collision, posing a problem for cops trying to prove how drunk he was at the time of the horror smash.

Cops decide to wait before breathalysing Roberts to avoid contaminating his sample.

As they do the 22-year-old says: “I know for a fact I’m going to fail this breathalyser, I’m going to go to the station and I’m going to fail that one as well, I know I am.

“Maybe I shouldn’t have drunk them. But I was not drink driving, that wasn’t the case.”

The officers inform Roberts that he failed the test, saying: “there is a strong smell of intoxicants coming from you.”

Roberts would later explain that he didn’t know exactly how many drinks he had that night.

In the nightclub, he said he drank two or three pints of light beer, as well as a double vodka and lemonade and some wine.

Roberts pleaded guilty to four counts of causing death by careless driving while under the influence.

Each charge reflected the substances he had taken.

He was jailed for three years and nine months at Cardiff Crown Court in June 2023 but the Court of Appeal increased this to five years and three months in September that year.

Roberts was also banned from driving for 12 years and seven-and-a-half months.

He has recently been freed from prison on licence after completing the required portion of his sentence in jail.

At the time of his sentencing Judge David Wynn Morgan said: “This was to the consternation of your friends who immediately concluded that you were in no fit state to drive and who followed you at a careful distance.

“You managed to negotiate your way in the dark and drizzle as far as the outskirts of Fochriw but as you descended into the village you lost control of your vehicle.”
