THIS is the shocking moment a moped-rider takes a drastic step to shake off a motorbike cop during their Grand Theft Auto-style police chase.
The suspect rider tries to escape from the authorities on a stolen moped.
Motorbike cop footage captured the bold move the suspect made while he was being chased.
He is first seen being closely chased by the cop bike whilst on an L-plated moped.
As the cop gets close to riding up beside him, the moped-rider can be seen swiftly reaching for his helmet and taking it off his head.
He then takes a quick glance back, and throws the helmet towards the cop’s bike.
It appears to just ricochet off one of the rear-view mirrors and the police are able to continue the chase.
After failing to lose the cop with his helmet manoeuvre, the suspect carries on the chase through narrow roads and pathways of the London neighbourhood.
He then tries to escape on foot instead, abandoning his moped on the side of a back street.
Police continue the chase on foot where the suspect heads back towards the main road.
He is then seen discarding a knife over the fence of a property.
This enables police to tackle him to the floor, and he is ordered to put his hand behind his back.
The video was shared on social media, where Met Police said: “A suspect attempted to escape on a stolen moped, even throwing a helmet at officers during the pursuit!
“When that failed, he abandoned the moped and discarded two knives over a wall, before being safely detained by officers.”
The man was arrested, charged and sentenced to 15 months in prison.
The Met added: “We remain dedicated to tackling moped-enabled crime and keeping London’s streets safe.”
Following the man’s arrest, two cops fist-bump each other with the “mission passed”.
Aftermath of the chase shows the abandoned moped and police motorbike lying on the side of the road.
Officers were able to recover two knives after their pursuit of the suspect.
