Moment furious woman rows with men putting up Union flags on the street before shoving their ladder to the floor

A woman was filmed rowing with two men and pushing their ladder to the floor after they attempted to mount a Union flag on a lamppost outside her home.

The men, who admitted to the woman they did not live on her estate, turned up on Kiln Crescent in Worcester on September 17 and began hanging Union Jacks and St George’s Crosses from numerous lampposts.

The pair from group Worcester Patriots are said to have encountered the woman, who told them she did not want them to put up the flags, in her car before the altercation began.

She accused the men of then getting in their van and following her to her home, local paper Worcester News reports.

The men denied this and said they arrived to mount the flags on the street after a donation to his GoFundMe campaign was received by one of its residents.

The clip, which has gone viral on social media, shows how the woman appeared to be on the phone to police outside her home while standing in front of the lamppost in an apparent attempt to prevent the men accessing it.

At one point during the video, one of the men attempting to put up the flag tells the woman: ‘I think you’re racist’.

She responds: ‘I think you’re racist actually.’

As she then steps briefly away from the lamppost, one of the men stands a ladder he is holding against it.

The woman is seen to push the ladder to the floor, and then does so a second time after the men replace it against the post.

Matters escalated when the woman was heard on the clip telling the men the mounting of flags is ‘racist’, adding: ‘We won’t have it’.

She was also heard to tell the men: ‘The police are coming, I’m sure you know them well’ and ‘Have you been a racist for long?’.

For their part the men accuse her of assault and refuse to stop filming her.

When the police officer turns up, the men are heard telling him they will simply move on to another street to mount the flags because ‘it’s not worth the aggro’.

Councillor Alex Mace, who represents the St Stephen ward on Worcester City Council for the Green Party, told Worcester News: ‘The lady in question had come onto the estate and said we don’t want the flags here, which she’s entitled to do.

‘The people putting flags up then got in their truck and followed her. She’s a lone mother with her child. That’s intimidating.

‘If it is about love and unity, they can move on and put the flags elsewhere.’

In a GoFundMe page launched by Worcester Patriots, the group says: ‘We are proud to be English/british operation raise the colours let’s put the great back in Britain thank you for all your support it’s amazing.’

The page, which has raised more than £1,500, is dedicated to the costs of purchasing flags and the cable ties used to mount them.

But it’s not all been plain sailing for the group, with comments on their social media posts indicating that some of the Union Jack flags have been mounted upside down.

The local Reform council has reportedly been instructed to leave any British and English flags that have been mounted to local infrastructure without permission in place.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: ‘Officers were called to an altercation on Kiln Crescent, Worcester at around 12.30pm on Wednesday 17 September.

‘An allegation of an assault, with no injuries, was made and enquiries are ongoing.’

The force added that the presence of flags in the community is a council and not a police matter.
