Moment dad chases down Belgian Malinois that mauled ‘screaming’ daughter, 8, in FACE – before vicious hound attacks him

THIS is the shocking moment a dad tried to chase down a Belgian Malinois which attacked his daughter – before being mauled by the animal himself.

The mutt, named Scooby, lunged at the little girl while she was visiting a market in Folkestone, Kent on May 18 last year.

Dramatic images show the child’s father emerge a few yards behind the dog’s owner Mohammed Kadir to confront him.

But as he approaches, the hound turns and bites the man, leaving him with puncture wounds on his arm.

Kadir is then caught fleeing the scene with his dog still on the lead following the double attack.

Kadir was jailed for six months for the attack and has been ordered to carry out 15 rehabilitation sessions and must pay the child and her father £100 in compensation.

The culprit was also ordered to pay a contribution of £1,000 towards police kennel costs as well as a victim surcharge of £154 and £85 court costs.

The court ordered Scooby must be put down, while Kadir has been banned from keeping any dogs for five years.

The little girl was browsing stalls on Sandgate Road with her dad when the horror unfolded.

She suffered wounds to her cheek and abdomen, before screaming in fright and running to her father.

Folkestone magistrates heard that the dog attack left the girl “shaken, quiet and clingy.”

She will be left with permanent scars as a result of the assault.

Belgian Malinois dogs are highly energetic and often used by police and the military due to their strength and intelligence.

There are currently four dog breeds banned in the UK, and some obedience experts argue the Belgian Malinois should be added to the list.

Dog behaviour experts say they need thousands of hours of training and can become dangerous if not handled properly.

According to a police report, Scooby, who has been kept in kennels since being seized 16 months ago, is not good with other dogs and lunges at them.

The prosecutor added: “Scooby does pose a risk to the public and the kennel costs come to £6,825.”

Darren Cousins, defending, argued: “The dog had a halter muzzle on to control it by the nose.

“You can see from the video the dog didn’t use its teeth; it scratched her face.

“He was in Folkestone market that day, but already had the dog muzzled, so he was being responsible, but what happened was unfortunate.

“He didn’t see the girl, and the dog just jumped up and kicked the girl to the ground.

“He had it on a tight lead and just walked off.

“The father was shouting at him. In fact, a group of people were all shouting and started to follow [him], and that’s the only reason he moved off.”

This comes after a one-year-old boy suffered injuries after he was bitten by a dog, as cops issued a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to.

The incident is thought have taken place at Arnos Court Park, in Brislington, in the south east area of Bristol, at around 5.45pm on July 29.

The child was taken to hospital for treatment for bruising and puncture wounds to the arm and he has since been discharged.
