Moment clumsy pub-goer tries to kung-fu kick reveller in brawl – but ends up throwing himself to the ground instead

THIS is the moment a clumsy pub-goer tried to kung-fu kick a reveller in a brawl – but ended up throwing himself to the ground instead.

Nicholas Roberts, 43, attempted to aim the “farcical” roundhouse-style martial arts kick at rival Sam Stenner.

But footage showed him losing his balance and crashing to the floor of The Clwyd Arms in Wales.

Bizarrely, Roberts’ friends mistook his fall for a punch so rushed over to defend the thug.

A brawl then erupted between Roberts’ and Sam’s groups as they began “gesticulating, shouting, pushing and shoving” each other.

During the fracas, Roberts punched builder Sam – leaving him with a broken nose and dislocated shoulder.

The yob has now pleaded guilty to affray at Mold Crown Court following the attack in December 2022.

Judge Simon Mills told Roberts: “It all started in a pretty farcical way, with you trying to do this kung fu-style kick and falling over.”

He said Roberts and his friends had behaved like “absolute louts” and said their behaviour was “thoroughly shameful”.

The judge added: “We can’t gloss over the fact you caused pretty serious harm to Mr Stenner.

“He had a partially dislocated shoulder which would have been fiercely painful at the time.

“People subjected to assaults in places like public houses look over their shoulders afterwards.

“They do get nervous on hearing noisy groups of people, particularly noisy groups of people who have been drinking, who are prone to unpredictable and aggressive behaviour, as happened here.”

The court heard Sam’s injuries temporarily affected his work as a builder.

Roberts was handed an 18-month jail term, which was suspended it for 18 months.

He must complete 100 hours of unpaid work and was banned from The Clwyd Arms for 12 months.

Duncan Bould, defending, said: “It was a disgraceful incident. He knows that and he has regretted it ever since.”
