THIS is the terrifying moment a failed asylum seeker sparked a major terror alert after leaving a fake stick of dynamite outside MI5 HQ.
Julian Valente Pereira, a 32-year-old Brazilian national, dropped the threatening package outside the secret service’s central London base.
He was caught on camera placing the fake stick of dynamite outside the building on the day after he was informed he would be kicked out of the UK.
Pereira was seen stuffing what is understood to be asylum paperwork through a gap in the middle of the double doors.
Wearing a thick, black jacket and a beanie style hat the 32-year-old struggles to deliver the papers.
He takes a step back before seemingly dropping the “dynamite” on the floor.
The camera operator zooms in on the device before Pereira is filmed picking up the stick shaped object which looks to be wrapped in tape and has a fuse.
Walking up to the double doors of the security services headquarters again he places the suspicious item against the bottom of the frame.
Leaving the apparent bomb there with its fuse facing upwards towards the building Pereira then turns and strides off.
He leaves a green cigarette lighter positioned nearby the supposed bomb before making his getaway.
The 32-year-old pulled the terrifying stunt after being told the day before, January 1, that he was being deported from the UK.
After a trial at City of London Magistrates’ Court Pereira was found guilty of carrying out a bomb hoax.
It was decided in court that the Brazilian immigrant had wanted people watching to believe the fake device was a real bomb.
The Crown Prosecution Service released the footage after the trial that saw Pereira remanded in custody until sentencing on April 1.
Prosecutor Shannon Revel said the migrant admitted to wanting “maximum attention” on his complaint against the Home Office.
A court heard he had been locked in a long-running failed bid for asylum.
The prosecutor explained: “No-one was going to pay attention to this act if they thought it was masking tape and paper.
“The attention he desperately wanted on January 1 is only achieved by the fact that someone believed that object could explode.”
The migrant is understood to have come to the country with permission to work in July 2018.
He reportedly remained in the UK illegally since February 2019.
The prosecutor added that Pereira “designed [the object] to look like a stick of dynamite.”
Pereira said in court that he had wanted to “catch the attention” of the security services, headquartered in the central London building.
The court also heard he had visited Buckingham Palace to throw a bag containing a copy of the immigration ruling and a knife stabbed through his ID over the gates.
A message was read in trial in which Pereira told a friend about his plans.
“I’m going to Buckingham Palace with a knife and one pen drive” he wrote.
When he was told to “stop being an idiot”, Pereira wrote: “I’m going to try and get attention.
“I’m going to throw the bag into Buckingham Palace.”
In a note found on the migrant’s phone Pereira wrote about “MI5 terrorising people inside hotels“, adding “I need to see the King.”
He also said he planned to “give information” to the Archbishop of Canterbury.
Pereira said the device he left outside MI5 HQ would not have been seen as explosive but said: “The news inside was dynamite.”
After he was arrested at an asylum hotel in Uxbridge, west London, Pereira told cops about his “long and tireless battle with the Home Office to try to attain asylum.”
The court heard Pereira made allegations of Home Office “corruption.”
He claimed illegal immigrants are employed by the Government department, and said those in the system are living in “squalor.”
The judge was told was also told that Pereira handed himself in to police as an overstayer in October 2020.
But, the court heard, he later sought asylum after being told to leave the UK.
It is understood he was placed in asylum seeker accommodation in June 2021, his asylum was refused in 2023, and his appeal against that decision was rejected by a judge in December 2025.
The court heard that Pereira’s accommodation was withdrawn on January 9.
The asylum seeker denied carrying out a bomb hoax by placing an article with intent.
The judge asked for reports on Pereira’s mental health and risk of reoffending ahead of sentencing.
