The two played 48 times together at the Red Devils as Rashford was establishing himself in the first team at Old Trafford.

Rashford, 28, has since left United for a loan at Barcelona and his future is seemingly set to be in Spain.

However, Carrick has made the bold decision to try to keep hold of the forward if he lands the United job full time, according to The Telegraph.

Rashford is contracted to United until 2028 but Barcelona have the option to make his move permanent for £26million.

He has been excelling since his move to Catalonia with nine goals and 12 assists in 31 appearances in all competitions.

Thomas Tuchel has also taken notice of his resurgance having recalled him to the England team for the 3-0 win over Wales in October 2025.

Barcelona have also benefited from Rashford’s improved form with their results.

Carrick will have to do his best to convince Rashford to remain at Old Trafford.

In October, the on-loan star insisted that he would like to stay in Barcelona beyond his current deal.

He told ESPN: “For sure.

“I’m enjoying this football club and I think for anybody who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in the history of the game.

“For a player it is an honour.”

Rashford is also believed to have formed a bond with Barcelona star Lamine Yamal.

He said: “I knew he was good before I played with him. But to play with him everyday is unbelievable,

“Relationships on the pitch, the ones I am still learning, are very important.

“When it comes to the matchday, these are things which make small differences.”
