Micah Richards launches scathing rant about ‘just ridiculous’ Marinakis sacking Ange Postecoglou after five games

MICAH RICHARDS blasted “ridiculous” Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis following Ange Postecoglou’s sacking yesterday.

The former Tottenham boss was axed just 19 minutes after his Forest side lost 3-0 at home to Chelsea.

Postecoglou watched on helplessly as City Ground stars fluffed numerous chances in front of goal, while several defensive mistakes handed Chelsea their goals on a silver platter.

Big Ange was ruthlessly dumped as he came off the field before delivering a team talk in the changing room.

The Aussie’s exit came after just eight matches, with five of those being Premier League games.

And he leaves with one of the worst managerial records in history after failing to win a single game.

Sean Dyche and Roberto Mancini are now frontrunners to take charge at Forest ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash against Porto.

But Prem title winner-turned-pundit Richards believes Forest owner Marinakis was wrong to sack Postecoglou after such a short time.

He feels Ange was always going to be up against it after Marinakis fell out with predecessor Nuno Espirito Santo.

The now-West Ham boss delivered European football for Forest but still fell foul of Marinakis after losing his grip on the Champions League spots.

And Richards reckons Marinakis has reached a new “ridiculous” level by calling time on Postecoglou’s reign after just five league matches.

Speaking on Match of the Day, he said: “I think it was (inevitable) for the owners in terms of his standards for the club.

“I remember last season, he thought they were going into the Champions League, didn’t work out, got into Europe, wasn’t good enough. Obviously Nuno gets sacked after that.

“But in terms of football – five games, 39 days in the Premier League, and you’re getting sacked. It’s just ridiculous to me.

“I don’t know where they’re going in terms of football. I understand the results haven’t been great, but in terms of a manager trying to get his philosophy over…

“We knew with Nuno it was a defensive-style team, now we know Ange likes to go on the front foot.

“We always talk about giving managers time to put their input on what the team wants to do. And for him to get five games in the league…”
