Melania’s ‘Sphynx-like’ smile steals UN show as world leaders frown and blink through Trump’s fiery speech

First Lady Melania Trump’s ‘Sphynx-like’ smile stole the show during President Donald Trump‘s fiery speech to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.

Body language expert Judi James told the Daily Mail that the first lady ‘was unfairly accused of sporting a poker face of disdain’ as the president ripped the UN on many issues.

Instead, there were ‘exactly the kind of moments that her more impassive, Sphynx-like facial expression was designed for,’ James said.

‘As her husband roasted, toasted and scorched his audience like s’mores on a campfire, Melania sat elegantly in her seat with just a small eye-dart suggesting she was in any way associated or involved with the man on stage,’ the body language expert said.

The president used a broken escalator and a teleprompter as evidence that there were broader problems at the UN, accusing the international body of giving him no assistance in ending wars.

‘All I got from the United Nations was an escalator on the way up that stopped in the middle,’ Trump said. ‘If the first lady wasn’t in great shape, she would’ve fallen.’

The 79-year-old then complimented his own physical fitness as well.

‘She did bother herself to produce a subtle wry smile of agreement though as Trump raged against the broken escalator that could have ditched both himself and his FLOTUS had they not been so admirably fit,’ James observed.

The expert told the Daily Mail that the ‘true, award-winning poker face’ belonged to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, ‘a man whose static, sober facial expression would have seen him working as an official mourner at funerals in another life.’

It stood in sharp contrast to U.N. Amb. Michael Waltz, who was finally confirmed by the Senate last week.

Waltz ‘decided to adopt a wild rictus smile of knowing and rather arch-looking approval while the rest of the group sat in studied silence,’ James said.

Trump didn’t only criticize the UN but he went after world leaders who didn’t have stronger immigration policies, including a number of European nations.

‘I’m really good at this stuff,’ Trump boasted before warning: ‘Your countries are going to hell.’

James noticed that several audience members ‘had their fingers over their lips suggesting of mocking or hiding their feelings and words.’

She said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s frown ‘suggested intense, concerned listening.’

Later Tuesday, Trump would hold a bilateral meeting with the Ukrainian leader that was much friendlier than the Oval Office showdown the two men had in late February, cuing fears that the U.S. would no longer be supportive of the war effort.

Trump even made the surprising comments Tuesday that he believed Ukraine should be able to regain all the territory taken by Russia with backing from NATO and the European Union.

But before Trump met with Zelensky, some world leaders appeared on edge.

President of the European Commission Ursula Von der Leyen ‘sat back in her seat with her lashes batting fast enough to cause a down-draught,’ James also noticed.

‘The Chinese delegation opted for superior, studious-looking frowns and clenched fists while the Russians sat filming Trump on their phones with an air of almost sinister-looking concentration,’ she said.

‘The UK opted for clenched hands and white knuckles with an elegantly raised chin, and the German delegate’s face was covered in creases from an intense, dour-looking frown,’ James made out.
